Lane explores the union of the still-life and its collection through a series of work which reflects upon the classic still-life subjects. Simple objects displayed under glass are included in various works emphasizing the desire and fulfillment achieved through containment. Lane’s still-lifes explore the role of the collection as a manipulator of time, suspending life and death in a missing dimension.

The doll simulates human life while remaining a still life object. As an inanimate object, it simultaneously represents life lost or death. The dolls depicted are remaining members from her childhood collection.
